Current Research - Field School

Each summer, the CAI in collaboration with the Department of Anthropology offers a course in archaeological field methods (Anth 496). This program offers full-time instruction in archaeological method and theory with special emphasis on basic field and laboratory techniques. Students are selected to participate in the program based on their previous coursework and fieldwork and motivation toward a professional career in archaeology. The course is offered as two separate 4-week-long, 3-credit-hour sections; you can take either or both. The first course begins on May 18 and runs to June 12; the second course runs June 15 through July 11.

The upcoming SIUC 2009 Field School will be held at the Kincaid site, a Mississippian mound center located in Massac County, Illinois. Links to additional information about the field school, the history of the Kincaid site, and an application form can be found below.
