Hybrid Material Culture: The Archaeology of Syncretism and Ethnogenesis
ABSTRACT GUIDELINES
Abstracts for the 2009 VS Conference are limited to 300 words. They will be due on 15 December 2008, and should be submitted via e-mail to Jeb J. Card. We ask that the abstracts are submitted as PDF files, though Microsoft Word files (either as Word or Rich Text format files) are also acceptable.
Abstracts should be formatted in the following manner:
-
Title of paper.
Name of first author, institution of author.
Name of second author, institution of author.
Etc.
Text of abstract.
Acknowledgement of funding, if any.
Contact information for first author.
As noted in the Call for Papers, please do not include graphics or tables in the abstract. References should be avoided, but if they are necessary, use a parenthetical citation that includes the author(s), year, title, and journal/book information. Parenthetical citations will not count against the total word count of the abstract.
Abstracts accepted for presentation will provide a brief summary of the background, methods and results of the study. As discussed in the call for papers, we are particularly interested in papers that explicitly offer tools for archaeologists studying change and hybridization of style, production, and/or meaning. This does not mean we are more interested in either theory or technical methodology at the expense of the other, tools can and should come in a variety of forms. As only papers presented at the meeting will be considered for inclusion in the edited conference volume, also keep in mind that your talk is eligible (and will be encouraged) to become a chapter in a peer-reviewed academic book.
All submitters will be informed of the status of their abstract early in the new year to maximize the time available to make travel arrangements. At that time, more conference details and further instructions to presenters will be sent.
Should you have additional questions, please contact Jeb J. Card at jcard@siu.edu
